![]() ![]() Kyoto Animation also adapted it into two anime television series consisting of 49 episodes broadcast between 20, including two original video animation episodes released in 20, directed by Tatsuya Ishihara with music direction by Shinji Orito. It was adapted by Toei Animation into an animated film in 2007 directed by Osamu Dezaki with music direction by Yoshichika Inomata. The story follows Tomoya Okazaki, a discontented high school student whose life changes when he meets a girl one year older than him named Nagisa Furukawa. Clannad discographyĬlannad is a visual novel developed by Key and published by VisualArt's in 2004. Music is what you make of it.Not to be confused with Clannad discography. To me, good music ages well.įans of the Dango family will surely be pleased, and much more!įor people unfamiliar with this work, I humbly urge you to take the first step and approach this with an open heart and mind, hopefully you will enjoy this every bit as much as I did. This was released in 2004, and not only has it held its place throughout the years, it has gradually contributed to enriching my auditory and spiritual experience little by little as I discovered something new or relatable every time I listen to it. My taste in music is relatively simple, I only ask for it to stand the test of time. Also note that the third disc contains mostly instrumental reinterpretations and off vocal versions of the tracks found on the previous two discs. Still, as a whole, considering the total track count, I am very satisfied. Since this soundtrack was made with the visual novel in mind before the anime’s inception, some tracks feel like typical filler music frequently used for visual novels: generic and rather forgettable. However, I am not gushing praises all over the soundtrack. The various motifs and themes perfectly capture the very essence of each scene, where the music is not merely an audio backdrop but an integral component in shaping the ongoing story. On a related note, this soundtrack truly shines when viewing Kyoto Animation’s animated work. This can’t be said for many other soundtracks, while they complement the visual novel/motion picture nicely, are unfortunately rather dull to listen to out of context. The sheer breadth and quality of these compositions make this album a terrific candidate for standalone listening, even if one tends to shy away from “game” music. Gleefully playful melodies like Étude pours les petites supercordes (1-07) and 東風 -afternoon- (Spring wind ?afternoon- / 3-02) portray the upbeat activities of daily life, and not to forget the emotionally heartwarming tracks such as 同じ高みへ (To the same heights / 2-05), which runs in direct contrast to its more depressing cousins 町、時の流れ、人 (Town, Flow of Time, People / 1-04). ![]() A dose of bittersweet ballads, Ana (2-15) and 小さなてのひら (Palm of a tiny hand / 2-17) sung mesmerizingly by Lia and riya feels at times almost dreamlike. Soothing, simple piano solos, in the likes of 汐 (Ushio / 1-01) makes for a sweet innocent intro. Perhaps most importantly, the music is relatable! To mention a few: Great value proposition aside, the musical diversity presented will delight fans and ease potential newcomers. The booklet includes the usual lyrics for the vocal pieces, short comments under each track, liner notes from the composers and scores for all vocal songs except Ana. The soundtrack contains an incredible 56 tracks spanning across 3 CDs with a mixture of instrumentals and vocals. Track by track, it takes us through the timeless passage of music with a nostalgic, emotional twinge for unfamiliar and familiar listeners alike. Originally composed for the visual novel CLANNAD, and later used for Kyoto Animation’s TV series, this album’s front cover speaks volumes about the musical artistry confined within. Some very beautiful, atmospheric and moving music that can be listened to and enjoyed outside the game itself. Very familiar with this from digital download but really wanted a physical copy.
